Pain with sex after having a baby. Physio for sexual pain

Are you experiencing pain with sex, or general pelvic pain?

Pelvic pain affects 1 in 5 women and can be associated with symptoms such as sexual pain, pelvic floor muscle spasm, bladder and bowel issues, bloating, and anxiety.

At Pelvic Fit Melbourne, we are able to offer treatment for the following pelvic pain conditions:

  • Dyspareunia - pain before, during or after vaginal penetration. Pain can occur at the vulva region, entrance of vagina, or deep inside th vagina.

  • Vaginismus - recurring or persistent involuntary contraction of the pelvic floor muscles. This can be associated with sexual intercourse, speculum examination and tampon insertion. Vaginismus can be the cause or the consequence of dyspareunia.

  • Vulvodynia - Pain to vulva or vaginal introitus that may or may not be associated with sexual intercourse and occurs in the absence of gross anatomic or neurological findings. The pain is often described as a burning, stinging, stabbing, throbbing or tearing sensation.

  • Proctalgia fugax - Sudden onset of severe rectal pain, caused by involuntary spasm of the pelvic floor or anal sphincter muscles. The pain is often described as sharp or stabbing—like a knife in the rectum—and typically lasts from a few seconds to several minutes.

  • Chronic pelvic pain - refers to pain in the pelvic region that persists for 3 to 6 months or longer. It can have a range of contributing factors, including previous injury, nerve sensitivity or damage, pelvic floor hypertension and psychological influences such as stress or anxiety.
